Rain CII Carbon LLC

Rain CII Carbon LLC (hereinafter referred to as Rain CII) is one of the world’s largest producers of calcined petroleum coke, with an annual capacity of 2.4 million metric tons of CPC. Rain CII converts green petroleum coke (GPC), a byproduct of the oil refining process, into dense and pure CPC carbon, which is essential to the aluminum smelting process. Rain CII's roots in the aluminum industry date back to 1959, when the company's US operations began with a single calciner under the ownership of Kaiser Aluminum. In addition to Rain CII's calciners, the company also owns three deep-water shipping terminals and two full-service petroleum coke laboratories. In addition to Rain CII being a major supplier to the world’s aluminum industry, the company is also a major supplier of CPC to the world’s TiO2 industry. In January 2013, Rain CII acquired RUETGERS, a Belgium-based coal tar pitch and downstream chemicals company that was established in 1849. The acquisition of RUETGERS provides important strategic depth for Rain CII in the aluminum industry.

Today, Rain CII operates seven calcining plants in the United States (Moundsville, Lake Charles, Robinson, Chalmette, Norco, Gramercy, and Purvis), one calcining plant in India (Visakhapatnam), and one calcining plant in China (Zhenjiang). Rain CII is headquartered in Houston, Texas and has offices in Stamford (USA), Hyderabad (India), and Shanghai (China). As a leading industrial carbon company, Rain CII works to achieve the highest value for their customer, their suppliers, their employees, the environmental, and the community.

Since 2011, Sinopec and Rain CII signed a green coke supply agreement. As a result, Sinopec supplies green petroleum coke from its refineries to Rain CII's global network of calciners.
