Sinopec Dalian Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. (FRIPP) was formerly Fushun Research Institute of the Northeast Petroleum Administration Bureau, the first refining technology research institution in New China, established in 1953, which was transferred to the management of Sinopec and renamed Fushun Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals in 1983. In 2012, Dalian Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals was established and managed together with Fushun Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals under the model of "two company names, one set of personnel". Its main body was relocated to Lushun, Dalian in 2017. In March 2022, Sinopec Dalian Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. was registered and established based on Dalian Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals, which is entrusted to manage Fushun Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals and has a subsidiary, Dalian FRIPP Science & Technology Co., Ltd. Based on historical reasons, the acronym of SINOPEC Dalian Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. has been adhering to “FRIPP”.

FRIPP currently covers an area of 184,000 square meters, with a total investment of 1.45 billion yuan. It has 735 employees, including 337 with senior or higher professional titles. Among them, there is 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 national outstanding engineer, 2 national leading talents, 8 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, 5 senior experts of Sinopec, and 11 experts with outstanding contributions to Sinopec. It has set up 15 research departments in total and has 28 national and provincial-level affiliated institutions such as National Engineering Research Center for Harmless Treatment and Resource Utilization of Industrial Wastewater and National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Environmental Pollution Prevention and Control Technology in Petrochemical Industry. As of the end of 2024, it has won a total of 42 national achievement awards and more than 547 provincial and ministerial-level achievement awards. It has 517 proprietary technologies of Sinopec, has applied for more than 12,000 domestic and foreign patents, and has been granted 8,720 patents. Its scientific research achievements have been applied to more than 900 production units in more than a dozen "Belt and Road" countries such as Russia, Japan, South Korea, and Central Asia, as well as in over 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across China.
