Sinopec has attached great importance to ecological and environmental protection and observed the laws and regulations on environmental protection where it operates. It has tried to keep away from the fragile ecological environment and ecological conservation areas during its operations by strengthening the identification and analysis of environmentally sensitive areas and environmental risks. Besides, it has adopted scientific approaches to promote ecological and environmental restoration and reclamation around abandoned oil and gas fields and along the oil and gas transmission pipelines, in order to protect the surrounding ecological environment. Moreover, it has built a number of garden-style factories, ecological emission facilities, wetland parks, bird habitats and other attractive landscapes fitting in with its production and the environment, and striving to make it beautiful and green. On top of that, it has taken multiple measures to safeguard biodiversity, promote ecological balance, and propel harmonious development between man and nature. In 2022, the company had 118.05 million square meters of green areas, and built and renovated 1.869 million square meters of green areas, with a 28.5% greening rate of the built-up areas and a 32.3% green coverage rate of the built-up areas.
