Happy LABA Festival!

Today is the Laba Festival, the eighth day of the 12th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. The Chinese always say: “Don’t get the munchies kiddy! You'll get to feast during the Chinese New Year soon after Laba”. It's a playful reminder to children to have self-control and not to indulge too much in food before the Lunar New Year.

On this day, Chinese people enjoy a meal of Laba congee, a traditional dish made of a mixture of glutinous rice, beans, and dried fruits. It is said that Laba congee brings good luck for the new year.

Likewise, Ecuadoran people eat “Fanesca” during the Holy Week, also known as Semana Santa. Fanesca is a soup made with grains. Similar to the Laba congee, Fanesca is made from various ingredients, such as corn, lupines, broad beans, peas, lentils, peanuts and beans.

Come and enjoy the Laba congee! #TogetherForABetterLife
