Sinopec Holds Inaugural International Petroleum Engineering Technology Conference in Beijing
BEIJING, September 15 — The Inaugural Sinopec International Petroleum Engineering Technology Conference opened here today, with more than 160 guests from 20 countries and regions gathered in Beijing. Niu Shuanwen, Vice President of Sinopec and Senior Vice President of Sinopec Corp., attended and delivered an address. Wu Bozhi, Vice President of CNOOC; Liu Hongbin, former Senior Vice President of Sinopec; and relevant leaders from CNPC also attended the conference. Renowned domestic oil and gas scholars, including Li Yang, Sun Huanquan and Guo Xusheng, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the conference and delivered keynote presentations. The conference is hosted by China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation and organized by Sinopec Oilfield Service Corporation, under the theme of "Technology Empowerment and Win-Win Cooperation", aiming to deepen transnational technology exchange, innovation collaboration and resource linkage, precisely adapt to the oil and gas development and industrial upgrading needs of various countries, iteratively improve the integrated, customized and full-chain oil and gas engineering service system, and jointly promote the global oilfield service industry to develop in an intelligent, high-end and green manner.
In recent years, Sinopec has been deeply engaged in the "two deeps, one unconventional, one mature" domains — deep onshore and deepwater oil and gas, unconventional resources, and mature fields — while actively contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative. The company has developed a portfolio of distinctive technologies in areas such as continental (lacustrine) shale oil exploration and development (E&D), deep fractured-vuggy carbonate reservoir development, and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in mature fields. Through a suite of "technology swords" — including high-precision 3D seismic, ultra-long horizontal well drilling and high-efficiency volume fracturing — Sinopec has overcome a series of world-class geological challenges, most notably the safe and efficient development of HPHT (high-pressure, high-temperature) and high-H₂S-content sour gas reservoirs. The company has built a distinctive technology portfolio spanning the entire oil and gas E&D value chain, delivering one-stop engineering and technology services that integrate green and low-carbon solutions for customers in 134 countries and regions. Sinopec has also established solid strategic partnerships with world-leading national oil companies (NOCs) and international energy enterprises.
In his address, Niu Shuanwen stated that Sinopec will remain committed to its corporate mission of "Fueling a Better Life." Upholding the principles of technology empowerment and innovation-driven growth, of open cooperation and mutual benefit, and of local prosperity and shared development, the company will continue to provide global customers with more advanced technologies, higher-quality products and more attentive services. Sinopec will further deepen strategic cooperation with partners across all domains, at deeper levels and with higher standards, working with partners in all countries to advance industrial prosperity, share development outcomes, and contribute wisdom and strength to the healthy development of the global energy industry.
During the conference, Academicians Li Yang, Sun Huanquan and Guo Xusheng delivered keynote presentations on topics including "Trends and Development Directions of CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage)," "Efficient Three-Dimensional Development Technologies for Shale Gas" and "Enrichment Mechanisms and Profitable Development Technologies for Continental Shale Oil." The conference spotlighted the "Integrated Petroleum Engineering Solution" and unveiled three new technologies: "Geophysical Intelligence (Geo-I) Technology 3.0," the "MVLog HPHT Logging Suite" and "Digital-Intelligent Drilling and Fracturing Technology and Equipment." Three oil companies — including Sinopec Shengli Oilfield — delivered specialized reports on exploration and development, while four petroleum engineering service companies — including Sinopec Matrix Corporation — together with Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Engineering Co., LTD and Sinopec Oilfield Equipment Corporation, presented specialized technical reports on petroleum engineering.
The conference also featured a thematic exhibition presented through electronic display panels, physical exhibits and models, and sand tables, showcasing the outstanding achievements of Sinopec's petroleum engineering services in supporting shale oil and gas E&D, ultra-deep oil and gas E&D, marine sour gas E&D, offshore oil and gas E&D, and EOR in mature fields. The exhibition also highlighted the company's integrated geophysical and petroleum engineering service capabilities and project portfolio, vividly demonstrating Sinopec's one-stop, integrated service capabilities for the exploration and development of multiple types of complex oil and gas reservoirs.
At the conference exchange sessions, numerous senior executives and technical experts from leading national oil companies and international energy companies expressed strong interest in Sinopec's proprietary core technologies in petroleum engineering and in its Belt and Road energy cooperation practices. Overseas attendees engaged in detailed exchanges on adapting technologies to overseas operating environments and on potential future directions of cooperation, with many of their international counterparts expressing a strong willingness to pursue further technical exchange and project collaboration.
Following the conference, some of the overseas guests proceeded to Dongying (Shandong province), Fuling (Chongqing) and Nanjing (Jiangsu province) for visits and field inspections.
